Fiam's commitment to the issue of ergonomics is unrelenting, with the company continuing to provide information and training on this most contemporary of subjects. Attesting to this is the latest seminar entitled "Ergonomics for prevention and for improvement of Quality: experiences and comparison", which was held on the 3 rd and 4 th of March 2005 in Altamura (Apulia - Italy). Here, Fiam took part as a sponsor as well as a direct speaker, illustrating new ergonomic tightening instruments and solutions for assembly work. Promoted by the Apulia Regional Council, this seminar was attended by European experts on Ergonomics matters as well as prestigious names from southern Italy's industry and companies who, like Fiam, presented interesting case histories on the themes of workplace improvement. It was a most significant event that addressed all the main aspects linked to the issues of ergonomics and quality, which have come to be recognized as vital to worker health and strategic in optimizing company production processes. For all those people wanting up-to-the-minute information on assessment criteria and methods, current laws and regulations, and experiences in assessment of the risk of biomechanical overload in certain production sectors - straight from the mouths of ergonomists of European renown and some of Italy's most highly qualified specialists - it was an invaluable opportunity. The part of the seminar devoted to company experiences in ergonomic design was also extremely interesting and included a concrete analysis of costs and benefits involved in adopting ergonomic solutions. The seminar ended with a look at the future to try to determine what the new frontiers of ergonomics will be. Apart from the training offered by the conference, Fiam had its own special 'insight space' where it gave direct answers to companies, occupational doctors and anyone else interested in gaining a deeper insight into the themes relating to assembly stations where tightening is carried out.
