Air Tube Nut Wrenches and Cartesian arms: a winning combination for an ergonomically sound work solution |

In this Fiam-zine issue, the company presents a solution born of the need to tighten nuts on gas trains designed for hobs: a particularly interesting and demanding solution considering that, in addition to the awkwardness of the tightening point, torques of over 13 Nm are involved, resulting in a considerable reaction on the operator's hand-arm system. The solution Fiam has come up with involves a screwdriver featuring an inline head: in point of fact, its technical features are precisely what make this instrument the best answer to assembly needs in cases where the tightening point is in an awkward position and the use of normal screwdrivers is greatly impeded by lack of space. The tool has been teamed with a Fiam arm based on a brand-new concept in Cartesian coordinate control. To make the tightening job even easier and eliminate stress on the operator's arm, an omnidirectional coupling has been designed for use in conjunction with the Cartesian arm: particularly suitable for installation on this kind of Fiam screwdriver, the coupling makes accurate, ergonomic tightening possible with very little effort from the operator. This highly agile and flexible device actually allows the tool to be rotated freely around its axis while also allowing its X-axis (horizontal plane) to move by +/- 15°. With this new solution, we can create ergonomically correct workstations: an objective that translates into improved worker comfort, producing a more healthy environment and, at the same time, boosting the company's productivity.
