A new ergonomic station for assembling and tightening industrial vehicle components

The new solution designed and produced by Fiam to meet the specific requirement of a single customer: to come up with a workstation that would allow the operator to carry out the assembly of the cross-beam supporting the gearbox of industrial vehicles by means of two operations - manual assembly of various components followed by a tightening operation using two M8 screws. The design stage was to focus, above all, on the ergonomic aspects: thus Fiam has produced a bench whose features  make manual assembly operations and subsequent tightening operations ergonomic, optimizing production efficiency as a whole.

The work bench features a BC 25 Cartesian arm, which permits an ergonomic tightening operation. The arm has the following features:
- It is extremely flexible and practical, with its full-height operating range and the arm's rotation through 180° on the X-axis
- It has a comfortable grip for holding the tool and making tightening operations easier
A special air nutrunner is installed in the arm, which can accurately tighten to the required 24 Nm thanks to the torque control system with automatic air shut off. The nutrunner is equipped with  lever start.

This is how the BC 25 Cartesian arm makes all operations ergonomic
- It stops the counterblow against the operator's hand
- No effort is required to hold the tool
- Vibrations are completely eliminated
- It enables the operator to keep a good wrist position
- The additional grip means the operator can share the workload between both hands, thus reducing strain

Other winning features of this work bench
- The aluminium structure is light and easy to carry
- The bench's legs feature brackets for fastening it to the floor to provide greater stability and to make manual component assembly operations and tightening operations safer
- The drawer units containing the components to be assembled can be tilted so that the operator can get hold of parts with less effort and more speed
- The shelf holding the components is adjustable in both height and diagonally to suit the operator's height
- The templates for placing the component to be assembled, designed to keep the part suitably positioned throughout all assembly and tightening stages, are made from non-scratch material so as to avoid damage.
