Fiam has created this Autovite solution to meet the need to attach speakers on plastic mounts fitted on vehicle doors with four self-threading screws at a torque of 1.2 Nm. This is a semiautomatic 4-spindle tightening solution, designed to allow parts to be loaded/unloaded manually. The whole solution has optimized cycle time, meeting the customer's demands and providing a high production rate. Another definite advantage in terms of productivity is the elimination of waste since all screws are tightened correctly and accurately.
Components of this solution
Made with a load-bearing framework complete with a location support, polycarbonate safety guard systems and photoelectric barriers opposite the operator, this solution's composition is as follows:
Piece-holding template
Comes complete with centering device and locating pegs (for tightening both right- and left-hand components)
Screw feeding system, positioned on special plate
The system comprises:
- Vibrating bowl feeder that feeds the four-way distributor/selector. The system also features an "overflow" control device that employs an optical fibre to improve screw feeding continuity, preventing jamming of any kind and hence machine stoppage
- "Two-way" screw selection unit
- Four-way distributor, fitted in sequence to the selection unit to feed the 4 motors
- Electronic controller, which is essential for checking the intensity of vibrations produced by the feeder and hence the speed at which screws are fed
4 Light, one-way tightening slides with 80 mm stroke
They feature ball-recirculating runners, magnetic cylinders with pneumatic decelerators and end-of-travel position sensors. The slides come complete with a screw-retaining head. The one-way slides are driven simultaneously by an approach device with 160 mm. Stroke. The slides house 4 MCZE4A air nutrunner motors with the Jointech Plus torque control system featuring automatic air shutoff.
Pneumatic system with Festo components
Electric system with SIEMENS operator panel and PLC
Working cycle:
- Once the part has been positioned manually on the template, the operator presses Start to initiate the tightening cycle
- Next, the 4 tightening slides move down to the component (approach)
- The 4 screws are tightened simultaneously by means of the 4 air nutrunner motors
- The slides and motors both withdraw
- The machine reports the result of tightening on the control panel. The signals are: green indicator light (piece OK); red indicator light (piece NOT OK); yellow indicator light (reports eventual anomalies)
If there is an anomaly, the operator can easily reject the nonconforming piece.
