Fiam came up with the solution to meet the specific requirement of one of its customers: to automatically assemble submersible motor filler caps using an automatic tightening unit to be added to a pallet-based assembly line being set up. The fastening station and devices introduced by Fiam have been designed based on the specific nature of the screw: an M8 flat head with "screw length/head diameter" ratio equalling 0.9 mm.
This Autovite solution is made up as follows:
Mounted on a steel base for inclusion in the existing line, it comprises a circular feeder and high-speed screw selector with one-way outfeed. The system also features an "overflow" control device that employs an optical fibre to improve screw feeding continuity, preventing jamming of any kind and hence machine stoppage. The optical fibre cuts off the flow of screws, throwing them back into the bowl when the tangent channel is already loaded with screws arranged in a line. Excess screws are expelled by means of an air blast.
- Anti capsizing pneumatic device
This device was introduced, given the dimensional nature of the screw, to allow the screw to be fed axially (as opposed to being fed at an angle, which is the case in traditional heads) by virtue of the head's horizontal translation, thus preventing capsizing.
- Dual-movement tightening slide
Featuring ball-recirculating runners, magnetic cylinders with pneumatic decelerators and limit switch-position sensors. The slide is fitted with a screw-retaining head.
- An MCZE air nutrunner motor is fitted on the slide
It comes with the Jointech Plus torque control system featuring instant automatic air shutoff.
The unit comes complete with a pneumatic system featuring Festo components and electric system with Siemens PLC and operator panel
This Autovite solution guarantees
The fastening station and the devices designed based on the screw type mean a 25-second assembly cycle (from start to end of the tightening cycle) can be achieved. This, together with the other operations planned for the automatic pallet-based assembly line, optimizes the production rate, resulting in zero machine downtime
- Extremely high tightening accuracy and repeatability
The system provides continuous, constant control of the assembly operation. The resulting product is thus reliable and correctly fastened, in other words a product of certified quality.
